The interpretation by the producers here the audience accepts the encoded , intended message.

2) What is the oppositional reading of a media?

3) How does the Harry Brown trailer position the audience to respond to the teenage characters in the film?

portraying them as one - dimensional , antisocial and menacing monsters.

4) Why might young people reject this reading and construct an oppositional reading of the trailer?

While the trailer for Harry Brown works hard to create a "preferred reading" (that the youths are irredeemable monsters), many young viewers might reject this and construct an oppositional reading.

5) Write a 150+ word analysis of the McDonald's advert using preferred, negotiated and oppositional readings.

The preferred reading (or dominant reading) is the intended message: McDonald's is a place for happy, convenient family experiences, fostering connection and joy through universally appealing food. An audience member who fully accepts this reading is likely to see the restaurant as a simple, feel-good option for a quick, shared meal, aspiring to the effortless happiness portrayed in the advert.
