Blog Task 3: Adverts / denotation and connotation

Denotation and Connotation:

Image result for water aid advert

In this WaterAid advert , I can see a little boy probably age 8-10 who looks angry / in pain.  The background represents the boy is in a hot country , as it looks like it is in the middle of nowhere. This advert uses all of them ideas; the young aged boy,, the background to make it effective to the viewers seeing the advert.

The phrase in the advert , " Dig toilets Not graves" is represented to the audience that instead of digging graves for people who don't have access to water they should be able to have toilets as a necessity. His facial expressions show he is helpless and in pain, this is effective because it shows the viewers he needs help and donations. The connection between "Dig toilets Not graves" implies that to dig a real working toilets it will help people in a country that dosen't have access to toilets . This will benefit them to not have to dig their own hole to use the toilet which prevents spreading diseases , and digging their own hole which is very unhygienic especially for young children.

In this Coca-Cola advert ,I can see an original glass coke bottle. And the phrase "Cant Beat The Real Thing" . The coke bottle is laying in a bunch of tiny ice. And the background is a plain black colour with the phrase in white writing.

The phrase "Cant Beat The Real Thing" is showing that even though there is many and many knock off "Colas" sold in shops all around. The writing on the glass bottle "CLASSIC" shows it is the original and the first cola . The bottle laying in ice could show that Coca-Cola is very chill and dosen't care about any of the knock offs. In another way , this could be targeted at other brands who make dupes of the real Coca-Cola.
